Backup goaltender Mike Dunham was magnificent in facing a 50-shot barrage from Anaheim, and Mike York scored on the sixth round of a shootout to give the Islanders their first victory of the season by a 5-4 socre over Anaheim last night at Honda Center.

The Islanders, who managed only 24 shots, got into the shootout when Alexei Yashin netted a blast from the high-slot that hit Jean-Sebastien Giguere's blocker and went in for a 4-all tie 16:17 into the third period. Dunham was making his first appearance in place of Rick DiPietro, who played the previous night in Los Angeles. He allowed a goal to the Ducks' first shooter, Ryan Shannon, and then made five saves as Viktor Kozlov tied the shootout at one with a backhand.
