TORONTO (CP) - The Toronto Marlies surrendered a season-high five first period goals and were routed 8-1 by the Chicago Wolves in American League action Monday.
Brett Sterling, with two, Andre Deveaux, Joey Crabb, Kevin Doell, Brian Fahey, Derek MacKenzie and Troy Milam scored for Chicago (32-15-1-4), which improved its road record to an AHL-best 22-5-0-1. Jeff Corey replied for the Marlies (19-26-2-3), who have lost four of their last five.
In front of an announced crowd of 2,201, Corey opened the scoring at 5:10 of the first period when he redirected a shot from the blue-line past Wolves goalie Fred Brathwaite.
Deveaux tied the game at the 10:28 mark of the first, and exactly one minute later, Crabb gave Chicago its first lead with his fifth goal of the year.
The Wolves went up 3-1 on Doell's short-handed goal at 14:19, then chased Toronto goalie Jean-Francois Racine from the net after Fahey's goal at 17:12.
