The Portland Winterhawks defeated the Seattle Thunderbird 5-0 Saturday night at ShoWare Center.
The T-Birds finish out the weekend by travelling to Vancouver to take on the Giants at Pacific Coliseum at 5:05 p.m. on Sunday.
Portland took a 1-0 lead at 17:15 of the first period on a goal by Troy Rutkowski. Nino Niederreiter had the only assist on the goal. The Winterhawks took a 2-0 lead at 19:29 of the first on a shorthanded goal by Chris Francis. Luke Walker and Brett Ponich had the assists on the goal.
Portland outshot Seattle 11-3 in the first period.
Niederreiter scored at 18:43 of the second period to put Portland in front 3-0. Ryan Johansen and Rutkowski assisted on the goal.
Both teams had nine shots on goal in the second period and Portland led 20-12 in total shots after two periods.
Rutkowski scored a second goal at the three minute mark of the third period to give the Winterhawks a 4-0 lead. Brad Ross and Niederreiter had the assists.
Spencer Bennett scored at 5:45 of the third to make it a 5-0 Portland lead. Walker had the only assist on the goal.
Portland outshot Seattle 14-10 in the third period and 34-22 in the game.
Seattle goalie Jacob Deserres made 29 saves on 34 shots in the loss.
Ian Curtis stopped all 22 shots he faced to get the shutout.
