(CP) - Tyson Sexsmith prevented Brandon from completing one Giant upset.

Sexsmith stopped all three shootout attempts he faced as the Vancouver Giants downed the Wheat Kings 3-2 in Western Hockey League action Wednesday. The Wheat Kings forced extra time on Andrew Clark's goal with 4:23 left in regulation. After a scoreless overtime, Vancouver centre Tim Kraus scored the lone goal of the shootout, and Sexsmith made it stand up, stopping Mark Derlago, Juraj Simek and Clark in succession.

J.D. Watt and Milan Lucic scored in regulation for the Giants (13-0-1-0), the top-ranked team in the Canadian Hockey League. Sexsmith added 25 saves in regulation as Vancouver won its franchise-record ninth straight home game.

In other WHL action Wednesday, it was: Medicine Hat 4, Regina 1; Calgary 5, Lethbridge 3; Saskatoon 2, Kelowna 1; Everett 3, Spokane 0; and Kamloops 4, Tri-City 2.

At Vancouver, Jeff Topilko had the other goal for Brandon (8-4-0-2), which came up short in its quest to hand the Giants their first regulation loss of the season.

Tyler Plante stopped 31 shots in a losing cause for the Wheat Kings.

Tigers 4, Pats 1

At Medicine Hat, Alta., Darren Helm and Tyler Ennis each scored twice as the Tigers beat Regina.

Matt Keetley stopped 29 shots to earn the win for Medicine Hat (12-3-0-0).

Ryan McDonald had the lone goal for the Pats (7-5-0-0).

Hitmen 5, Hurricanes 3

At Lethbridge, Alta., Martin Jones stopped 38 shots for his first career WHL victory as Calgary weathered the Hurricanes.

Alex Plante, Robin Figren, Brett Sonne, Brodie Dupont and Freddie Petterson scored for the Hitmen (7-6-0-1).

Lukas Vantuch scored twice and Kriss Hogg added a single for Lethbridge (5-10-1-1).

Blades 2, Rockets 1

At Kelowna, B.C., Rastislav Konecny scored twice in Saskatoon's win over the Rockets.

Blaine Neufeld made 26 saves to preserve the win for the Blades (5-7-0-1).

Myles MacRae had the lone goal for Kelowna (4-8-0-2).

Silvertips 3, Chiefs 0

At Everett, Wash., Leland Irving stopped 20 shots for his 10th career shutout as the Silvertips cruised past Spokane.

Jason Fransoo, Brandon Campos and Kyle Beach scored for Everett (10-1-0-1).

Kevin Armstrong made 15 saves for the Chiefs (5-6-2-0).

Blazers 4, Americans 2

At Kennewick, Wash., Juuso Puustinen scored twice as Kamloops beat the Americans.

Brock Nixon and Raymond Macias added goals for the Blazers (7-3-1-1).

Tanner Gillies and Joel Broda countered for Tri-City (9-4-0-0).
