- The Red Deer Rebels are doing their part to keep pace in the Western Hockey League's toughest division.

Brett Sutter scored twice to lead the Rebels to a 3-2 win over the Saskatoon Blades in WHL action Wednesday. Dustin Moore added a power-play goal for the Rebels (15-8-2-1), who won their third straight game. Despite the impressive record, Red Deer remains in third place in the ultra-competitive Central Division, two points back of Kootenay - a 5-4 shootout loser to Lethbridge - and a whopping 11 points behind idle Medicine Hat.

The Rebels did put some distance between themselves and the Calgary Hitmen, who lost a 2-1 shootout decision to Everett to drop one point back of Red Deer.

Elsewhere in the WHL on Wednesday, it was: Kamloops 4, Regina 0; Lethbridge 4, Kootenay 3 (SO); Lethbridge; Everett 2, Calgary 1 (SO); Spokane 4, Vancouver 3 (SO); Seattle 2, Chilliwack 0; and Swift Current 3, Portland 0.

At Saskatoon, Adam Geric and Ryan Funk scored for the Blades (8-14-0-1).

Saskatoon's Blaine Neufeld was pulled 6:13 into the second period after allowing three goals on 21 shots. Braden Holtby stopped all 18 shots he faced in relief.

James Reimer made 30 saves for the Rebels.

Blazers 4, Pats 0

At Kamloops, B.C., Dustin Butler's 11-save performance guided the Blazers past Regina.

Reid Jorgensen, Matt Schmermund, Alex Rodgers and Juuso Puustinen scored for the Blazers (16-7-1-1).

Tommy Tartaglione stopped 25 shots for the Pats (11-12-1-1).

Hurricanes 4, Ice 3, SO

At Lethbridge, Alta., Dwight King scored the shootout winner to lead the Hurricanes past Kootenay.

Carter Bancks, Kris Hogg and Mitch Fadden scored in regulation for Lethbridge (11-14-2-1).

Andrew Bailey scored twice while Lukas Bohunicky added a goal for Kootenay (16-7-1-2).

Silvertips 2, Hitmen 1, SO

At Everett, Wash., Brennan Sonne scored the only goal of the shootout as the Silvertips slid past Calgary.

Taylor Ellington scored in regulation for Everett (19-2-0-1).

Karl Alzner replied for Calgary (15-9-0-2).

Chiefs 4, Giants 3, SO

At Spokane, Wash., Derek Ryan scored twice in regulation and had the lone goal of the shootout as the Chiefs upended Vancouver.

David Rutherford had the other regulation goal for Spokane (12-10-3-0).

Michal Repik scored twice while Tim Kraus added a single for the Giants (20-2-1-2).

Thunderbirds 2, Bruins 0

At Seattle, Jacob DeSerres stopped 30 shots for his first career WHL shutout as the Thunderbirds blanked Chilliwack.

Bud Holloway and Jan Eberle had goals for the Thunderbirds (10-6-1-5).

Jim Watt made 28 saves in a losing cause for the Bruins (6-17-2-1).

Broncos 3, Winter Hawks 0

At Swift Current, Sask., Travis Yonkman made 24 saves as the Broncos shut out Portland.

Geordie Wudrick, Kyle Bortis and Grant Toulmin scored for Swift Current (13-13-1-0).

Kurtis Mucha stopped 22 shots for Portland (8-15-0-1).
