(Sports Network) - The St. Louis Blues knew what they would were getting, in terms of leadership and presence, when the club brought back center Doug Weight during the offseason. They were expecting a little more offense than what the 35-year-old provided over the first few contests of the season, however.
Weight was held without a point for seven consecutive games, but the 15th-year veteran finally broke out Saturday against the Chicago Blackhawks. Weight assisted on a pair of scores to help the Blues rally from an early two-goal deficit and post a much-needed 4-3 victory.
One of those helpers set up a goal by Lee Stempniak, St. Louis' offensive star on the evening. The second-year forward scored twice and added an assist on Petr Cajanek's tie-breaking tally early in the third period.
The victory was the Blues' first in four road outings this season and snapped an overall two-game losing streak.
Friday's 3-2 overtime loss to Vancouver at Scottrade Center marked the long- awaited debut of defenseman Jay McKee, who signed a four-year, $16 million with St. Louis over the summer. The former Buffalo Sabre's first game as a Blue had a short and sour ending, however, as McKee fractured his right hand while blocking a shot by the Canucks' Rory Fitzpatrick.
