Tenacious fore-checking and relentless pressure propelled the Vancouver Giants to a 7-0 whitewash over the Everett Silvertips on Saturday night at the Pacific Coliseum.

Garry Nunn scored twice for the Giants and set up another for a three point night while Lance Bouma was also solid on the boards and chipped in with three helpers. The Giants also had goals from Alex Rodgers, Nick Ross, Craig Cunningham, Jonathon Blum and James Wright. Jamie Tucker stopped all 23 shots he faced to pick up his 13th win of the season as well as his fourth shutout.

Vancouver started things off early, scoring three goals in the opening frame. Craig Cunningham with a deflection of a Mike Berube shot opened the scoring just three minutes into the opening frame. Just two minutes later, Nick Ross wrapped up a great shift by all the Giants on the ice, stepping into a shot from the top of the slot to make things 2-0 at 5:36. Before the game was 13 minutes old, James Wright made the goal barrage continue, pumping his 16th goal of the season past Thomas Heemskerk to make the score 3-0 after one period.

The onslaught continued in period two. Jonathon Blum scored his 16th goal of the season after some hard work from Bouma and Gallagher created a chance for the Giants Captain. Halfway through the period, Alex Rodgers slotted a loose puck into the goal past Kent Simpson, who had replaced Heemskerk in the nets. Garry Nunn then made the score 6-0 when he collected a rebound off a Lance Bouma breakaway at 15:01 of the second period. The Giants were relentless in the second period and pounded 22 shots on goal in the process.

A subdued third period saw both teams throw six shots on goal and Garry Nunn jumping on a Evander Kane pass to make the final score 7-0. The Giants finished the game with 47 shots on goal and arguably had possession 70% of the time. The Giants pick up their 40th win of the season and move their record to 40-4-0-3 after 47 games.

The Giants will play five of their next six games away from the Rink on Renfrew and will wrap up their three games in three night stretch tomorrow in the Fraser Valley versus the Chilliwack Bruins. You can catch all the action on AM 650, with the SAVE ON FOODS pre-game show at 4:30, puck drop at 5 pm from Prospera Centre in Chilliwack. Dave Sheldon and Bill Wilms will have the call of all the action from the Fraser Valley.
