VANCOUVER (CP) - Rookie defenceman Alexander Edler was recalled by the Vancouver Canucks on Friday because top defender Sami Salo was sidelined by a left knee sprain.
Salo is expected to be out of action for a week. The team said Friday that Salo suffered a first-degree sprain in a 5-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Thursday night.
Salo, 32, has three goals and seven assists for 10 points in 13 games this season.
Vancouver is also missing top-three defenceman Willie Mitchell, who still hasn't resumed skating after sustaining a concussion during a game on Oct. 21.
