In The Spotlight

G Ryan Miller

Arguably the best goaltender in the NHL this season has performed admirably for the Buffalo Sabres. Expected to be the starting goaltender, he brings good size, technical skills and athleticism to the American net.

D Erik Johnson

Johnson is the best all-around defenseman that America has produced in years. At only 21, he's got a wealth of international competition, representing America in both the World Juniors and the World Championships in 2007. He will play in all situations and against the top lines of other teams.

LW Zach Parise

Parise has developed himself into a player that is dominant in all areas of the ice. Because of this, he will play on the top line with the American team and get plenty of ice time in key situations.

I find it suspect and Hilarious that Komisarek is in over Keith Ballard. Its obvious Burke and Wilson are bringing their Leaf fail to the USA olympic squad.

A slow guy who has not looked good in the larger Olympic rink against teams that were obviously picked based on speed first.
Hell, I'd have taken Andy Greene over Komisarek. At least the guy can skate...
Too bad on Martin, although I'd rather he focus on getting back completely healthy for the post-Olympic stretch anyway.

I'd go with Ballard as his replacement.
Sweet mask. I like the Apache and eagle on the side.
I'm so confused:frown:
That happens frequently with his posts.;)
ok listen i got it from nhl.com
So do you actually have an opinion or do you just repeat what you read elsewhere?

As for the game, nice win by the US. It wasn't pretty but they got the job done. I really liked the competitiveness they showed, even when they were stuck in their own end. They played a much smarter defensive game and didn't take too many reckless chances.

On to the next round...
Who does USA play next?
The winner of the Switzerland/Belarus game, which means probably the Swiss. They took Canada to the shootout already, so the US better not take them lightly.

Well, the USA already beat Switzerland once. I think they know what it takes to beat them, but if they don't put in the full effort, it could be an upset.
The one thing I worry about is that they might have put so much emotionally into the game against Canada that they suffer a letdown against the Swiss. The Swiss have gone to overtime three straight games, so it'll probably be a close game.
Its funny people made fun of Canada for barely beating the Swiss, hmm looks like USA didn't do much better.
They still won the game didn't they? And they shut the Swiss out in regulation, something the loaded Canadian team with an All-Star defense couldn't do.;)

Canada should be thanking us actually, because I think we may have awoken a sleeping giant...
Funny how you Amercians Act like you're team is full of b class players. You only managed to score 1 goal that was an empty net, and the way canada Dominated you in the first match Miller is gonna have to stand on his head again.

Good Luck with Finnland :cheeky4:
That's because we've been led to believe our players our inferior to those of mighty Canada. Besides, you just don't want to admit that we've got you Canadians worried.;)
I was sure impressed by Parise and Rafalski. Don't get a chance to watch Red Wings or Devils games but those two guys really stood out for me besides the awesome performances by Miller.

I'm glad Canada won but I wouldn't have been upset by a USA win because they would have earned it. They played really well especially in the 3rd.
Parise is just ******* amazing. There's really no other way to describe it. The kid works his ass off all the time, comes up big when it matters, and wears his emotions on his sleeve. You could see his excitement when he tied the game, and how completely dejected he was after they lost. The kid just plain wants to win.

As for Rafalski, it's the same story you always get with him. He'll do one or two great things offensively and then turn the puck over or be completely out of position defensively. He was great offensively earlier in the tournament, but was rather unimpressive in the gold medal game. He turned the puck over several times (including one that led directly to Canada's first goal), and was out of position on the overtime goal (although to be fair, so was his partner). This game reminded me of why I wasn't all that sad to see him leave New Jersey.

In Rafalsski's defense, he was on the ice basically the entire game. It seemed like he never came off. Maybe he was a little tired and that's why he ended up out of position in OT.
It's nothing new with him though. He's had the same issues his entire career. He's been lucky enough to play most of his career alongside the likes of Stevens, Niedermayer, and Lidstrom, so those mistakes aren't as obvious as they are when he's the #1 guy. And I don't mean to sound as if I'm ripping on the guy, because his offense was a big reason they even got to the gold medal game. You just have to expect that he'll make some mistakes in his own end.
