Busy Week Ahead for Flags

(PORT HURON, MICH.) - The Port Huron Flags have a full schedule of events in front of them, including three home games this weekend and a host of player appearances in the following week.

Beginning with today, several team members will be at a player appearance at the Port Huron Library from 4:30 to 5:30. Flags players will read holiday books to children and participate in a craft session.

Tomorrow, the Flags host the Elmira Jackals at McMorran Arena, with the puck dropping at 7:30 p.m. The Old Newsboys of the Port Huron Times Herald will be at the game to sell their commemorative papers, which are an annual fundraiser to provide holiday necessities for families in need. Additionally, the Old Newsboys are selling tickets for the game at $10 each, available in the Times Herald office.

On Saturday, the Quad City Mallards come to town, while the Flags recognize the boy and girl scouts in the area. The annual Scout Night promotion awards a unique patch to all troop members who attend the game, which starts at 7:30 p.m. Special musical guest Redhill, featuring Flags national anthem performer Julianne, will perform prior to gametime, starting at 7:25 p.m. They will be available during the game for autographs and CD purchases.

Sunday's festivities include a canned food drive, in conjunction with the Salvation Army. A non-perishable food item brought to the game earns a discount ticket at the door. Additionally, Santa Clause will be stopping by McMorran to take pictures with children and hear their wish lists. For a donation to the Salvation Army, children of all ages can take a picture with Santa and Slapshot, the Flags' friendly mascot. At 5 p.m., the puck drops against the Flags' arch rivals, Flint Generals.

Next Tuesday, Dec. 19, players will be at the YMCA to play floor hockey with the Young Fives program, from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Later, from 3:15 to 4:45, they will also be in action at Edison Elementary.

Wednesday, Dec. 20 marks the Flags Annual Mall Meet-n-Greet promotion. From 6 to 8 p.m., the entire team will be at Birchwood Mall to sign autographs, talk to fans and give away prizes.

Finally, on Thursday, Dec. 21, players will return to the YMCA to participate in the special Holiday Camp program for young students who are out of school for Christmas break, from 1:30 - 3 p.m.

Mister OT Returns Tonight

Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud member of the United Hockey League and 2005-06 Central Division, Tarry Cup and Colonial Cup Champions, announce the signing of forward Lucas Drake.

Six and a half months ago Drake helped the K-Wings reach the pinnacle of the UHL by scoring the Colonial Cup overtime clinching goal, May 27th in Danbury, Connecticut. Beginning tonight the forward is poised to lend a hand to the K-Wings repeating efforts.

"Lucas played a key role for us (K-Wings) in capturing the championship," said Vice President/General Manager Paul L. Pickard. "He brings a lot of intangibles to our team and we are looking for him to pick up where he left off."

Besides scoring the most important goal in K-Wings' UHL history, during the 2006 Colonial Cup Playoffs, Drake set the K-Wings' UHL Franchise Record and tied the UHL Record for Goals in a Playoff Game with five on May 6th versus the Rockford IceHogs. In the same game, Drake also set the K-Wings' UHL Franchise Record for Most Shorthanded Goals (2).

Drake's playoff success was a carry over from a stellar regular season, in which the left winger tallied career highs in goals (35), assists (33) and points (68).

Kalamazoo has been a second home for the Holt, Michigan native. Besides last year with the K-Wings, Drake played four seasons of collegiate hockey for the Western Michigan University Broncos (2000-2004), registering 55 points in 149 games.

After leaving WMU, Drake spent two seasons in the ECHL with the Mississippi Sea Wolves. With Mississippi, Drake had success recording 30 points in 72 games and made a playoff run in both of his seasons with the Sea Wolves.

Starting this season in the ECHL with the Columbia Inferno, Drake registered 16 points (7 goals, 9 assists) in 22 games.

Drake is scheduled to be in the lineup tonight, as the K-Wings hit the road to start a home and home series against archrivals, the Fort Wayne Komets.

Lucas will also have two opportunities to lace up the skates in front of the Wings Stadium crowd this weekend. On Saturday, the K-Wings and Komets will finish off the two-game set during the 7th Annual Teddy Bear Toss Night presented by Kodiak Construction, WOTV and WKFR. Sunday, the Elmira Jackals will invade Wings Stadium for a 4 p.m. matinee.

Tickets for this weekend or for any home K-Wing game are available at the Wings Stadium Ticket Office during their regular business hours of 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday or 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday. Fans can also purchase tickets over the phone by calling (269) 345-5101 or online at Official Ticketmaster site. Tickets for Concerts, Sports, Arts, Theater, Family, Events, more.
