(Sports Network) - The red-hot Buffalo Sabres keep opening eyes this season and will visit the Boston Bruins tonight at TD Banknorth Garden.

Buffalo is off to its best start since beginning the 1975-76 season 8-0, and has won 12 straight games dating back to last season after Friday's 5-4 win over the defending Stanley Cup-champion Carolina Hurricanes.

Maxim Afinogenov had a goal and two assists, while Thomas Vanek finished with a goal and an assist and Jaroslav Spacek added the deciding marker late in the third period for the new-look Sabres.

Buffalo goaltender Ryan Miller needed to make 16 saves for the win.

Boston, meanwhile, was finally able to hold its home opener on Thursday, and the result was a 3-2 decision over visiting Calgary. Glen Murray scored twice and Marc Savard added a pair of assists as the Bruins ended a three-game losing streak.

Brad Boyes gave Boston an immediate lead just 18 seconds into the game and Hannu Toivonen stopped 26 shots. Boston managed only its second victory of the season.

Murray tops the team with four goals, and his five points are tied with Boyes, Savard and Zdeno Chara for the club high. Chara leads with five assists, followed up by Savard, the team's other key offseason acquisition, with four.

Boston was without injured winger Marco Sturm, who sat with a left thigh injury. The ailment was sustained at Wednesday's practice when he was hit by a Brad Stuart shot during a drill. Sturm is day-to-day.
