Tough start for Flames

"It was a tough game," said Kiprusoff, who was beaten three times on the first seven shots, finished with 16 saves. "There wasn't too many shots but I think we have to be smarter playing in our own end."

Is it me but the paint change to his mask doesn't look all that great :dunno:

My question now is if the Flames can pull out a win at home Saturday night?

I'm not sure but man the flames D looked pathetic, beat so many times in foot races.

Both games the defence had a tough time containing canuck players in the slot, thats one of the things the Sediens are actually good at. I wouldn't be too worried about dropping the 1st two, the were moments when they looked brilliant in the offencive end, even the 3rd and 4th lines. Last night it came down to them having a bit of bad luck and towards the end none of the calls were going their way.

If anybody else seemes to notice that Kipper seems alittle on edge, I think I may have found out why; he's quitting smoking.
Kipper peaked on 2004, I have been watching him go down hill since then. We need another goaltender and fast.

The D did suck and looked like a AA midget team in the first game. They need to cut the cancer out immediately.
I don't ge why kiprusoff has been having such slow starts the last 3 years. It seems he just can't get it together till the first 2 months of the season are over.
I was at the first game and man, it was brutal :frown:. They came out strong and where containing the puck, but fell apart after that. The defensive played very weak and Kipper was letting in some beach balls himself, so it wasn't just the D. After the 2nd period they just gave up completely, the Canucks where able to turn all of our defensive fumbles into goals, again and again. I was even embarrassed to be seen in a flames jersey on the sky train ride home. The only thing I can say we did well that game was the physical play, lots of hits.

The second game was a little bit better. The return of Robyn Regehr gave our D a good boost and we showed some signs of good play that were converted into goal. But a mix of bad D and bad goaltending blew out 2 goal lead, causing us to loose the game.

We really need our D to get better, it doesn't matter what it takes, whether its scratching guys to give younger players a chance or making trades. Personally I think we should think about trading Matthew Lombardi for a solid defenseman if this horrible defensive play continues. Lombo could easily be a second or even first line center on the right team and he isn't going to develop well on out third line. Kipprusoff is another weak point, its just been downhill for him since 04. If he doesn't pick it up I think his days as a starter or maybe even an NHL goalie are numbered.

My 2 cents. I'm still standing strong for the flames though!

I think he isn't in very good shape when the season starts. Maybe because he is a smoker. So he doesn't hit his peak for the season until a couple months down the road.

Thats terrible that he smokes, the Flames management should step in on that cause there paying him to be @ his best and smoking deffinatly prevents that.

Are you kidding me Kippers best season was 05/06! I think his real probblem is Mike Keenan the more I see of him the more it seems like Playfair should return as coach. Under Playfair Kipprusoff had his best season.

It is a team game, and right now we are back to last season where there is NO team defense. Yes Kipper has been average, but he has no support too many 2-1's and 3-1's. Look at the OT winner it was a freakin 3-1.

I never really thought Playfair was fit to be a head coach, at least not at the moment. I don't like Keenan either, but he's the best we have right now.

I just hope it doesn't take an absence from the post-season to get the flames management to let him go.
I don't see why everyone has a problem with Keenan, he's a coach thats capable of taking a team to the finals. Yes the Flames lost their first 2 games, so what? 1st they do this every year, there's obviously a few things that need work on but it's nothing they're capable of doing over 80 games. The only real problem they need to adress is containment of players on the odd man rushes and when coming out of the cycle, two area's in which the canucks are really good at. I can't see this as anything other than a start of the season fix.

The only problem I have with the coaching staff is the line scrambling in the first 2 games, they were throwing lines togeather that really didn't have much for chemistry. Not that big a problem either, there's alot of new players in the roster this year and over time they'll really have a good idea of who has good chemistry with who and that will be for the better.

As for Kippers relationship with Keenan, it really looks as though he really wants to step up this year. He came to training camp this year in the best shape of his life, and not only that he's giving up smoking. I wouldn't doubt that once the team gets on a roll that he wont follow.

I saw alot more promising things from players these first 2 games; Camallerri looks great, not hard to imagine him scoring 35 goals. Bertuzzi looks asthough he'll play 1st line minutes. Glencross is definatly going to exceed expectations this year. Phaneuf is starting to dominate the play when ever he's on. There seems to be alot better depth than previous years.

um, Daryl Sutter was there coach the year Kiprusoff had his best year, and he's been going down hill since.

Sorry I didn't see, but I think the fact that he smokes as a professional athlete shows some disrespect to his team-mates and coaches and fans.

He's human and entitled to his own private life.

But he is a public figure and he's paid by somebody to be in the best shape he can and smoking obviously prevents that.

You think he's the only one that does it? I would guess half of the NHL players smoking if not more. Just because they are public figures doesn't give anyone the right telling them what they sould or shouldn't be doing.

Yes, yes it does. If you work for somebody they have every right to give you rules to workunder if you do things that effect his work then they can say something. You think that business don't tell there employes that they have rules to work under? your deluding yourself if you don't think so.

Yeah they can say something but it's up to that person if they wish to follow it or not. When it's your own personal time away from work it's different, lets say your at work and they have a rule, yeah you follow it but when your on your own time and it isn't doing the law harm they can't say or do squat about it.
