(Sports Network) - The red-hot Atlanta Thrashers will try their luck against the Eastern Conference's best team this evening, when they visit the Buffalo Sabres at HSBC Arena.

The Thrashers, who lead the Southeast Division with 52 points, have won five straight contests, tying the franchise record achieved most recently from November 25-December 5.

Atlanta is coming off Wednesday's triumph in Pittsburgh. Slava Kozlov scored the eventual game-winning goal and added an assist as the Thrashers downed the Penguins, 4-2, at Mellon Arena.

Vitaly Vishnevski, Niclas Havelid, Vyacheslav Kozlov and Bobby Holik each had a goal and Kari Lehtonen stopped 35 shots for the Thrashers.

The Thrashers, who are 12-5-3 as the visitor this year, are playing the second portion of a four-game road trip this evening.

Meanwhile, the Sabres, who led the East with 57 points, have begun a four-game homestand with back-to-back victories. They kicked off the residency on Tuesday with a win over Washington and then defeated the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday.
