(Sports Network) - The Atlanta Thrashers may not be taking the straightest path to the playoffs this year, but that won't matter just long as they make the postseason.

The Thrashers have never made it to the NHL's second season since entering the league as an expansion team for the 1999-2000 campaign. However, that should change this year as Atlanta is first in the Southeast Division and third in the Eastern Conference with 66 points.

The one knock on Atlanta this year is that the team seems to be on a perpetual roller-coaster rider and can never maintain any sort of consistency. The team has four winning streaks of four or more games this season, but also has three skids of four or more contests.
