Thrashers look for a rebound against Islanders
(Sports Network) - Both the Atlanta Thrashers and New York Islanders hope to regroup from Friday losses when the teams face off tonight at Nassau Coliseum.
Atlanta's defeat was the more painful one, as the Thrashers held a one-goal lead into the final minute of their game with Washington. Second-year sensation Alexander Ovechkin then took over, scoring the equalizer with 30 seconds left in regulation before giving the Capitals a 3-2 victory just six seconds into overtime.
The Thrashers, who have now dropped four straight games, received goals from Jon Sim and J.P. Vigier and 30 saves out of goaltender Kari Lehtonen.
Atlanta also lost four in a row from November 10-18, but hasn't dropped five consecutive contests since a seven-game slide from January 19-February 3 of last season.
The Thrashers have fared very well on the road, however, bringing an impressive 10-4-3 mark away from home into tonight's tilt. Atlanta will also visit New Jersey Tuesday on its brief New York-area swing.
The Islanders weren't nearly as competitive last night, falling behind the Pittsburgh Penguins early and suffering a 7-4 defeat at Mellon Arena. The loss was New York's third in four games.
Rick DiPietro allowed five goals on 29 shots for the Isles before being yanked in favor of Mike Dunham, who had four saves on only six shots.
