(Sports Network) - The Atlanta Thrashers try to rebound from their first regulation loss of the season tonight when they visit the Washington Capitals at the Verizon Center.

The Thrashers entered Friday's action 3-0-1, but dropped a 4-3 decision to Carolina. After falling behind 3-0 in the first period, Atlanta came back and tied the match in the third period. However, Ray Whitney scored the game- winner with 0.5 seconds left to lift the Hurricanes.

Jon Sim tallied two goals for Atlanta, while sophomore goaltender Kari Lehtonen made 29 saves in the loss. Lehtonen came in having allowed only three goals in his first four starts of the young season.

Bobby Holik also tallied, tying the game with 5:21 left in the third.

Atlanta star winger Ilya Kovalchuk didn't reach the scoresheet and continues to search for his first goal of the season. Kovalchuk was shut out despite firing a game-high 11 shots on net.

Atlanta will next play on Thursday, hosting Washington at Philips Arena. Friday's game began a stretch of six straight against Southeast Division opponents.

Washington, meanwhile, has dropped two of its first three games to begin the season. On Thursday the Caps lost a 3-2 shootout decision to host Minnesota, as Mikko Koivu tallied the game-winner in the SO.
