(Sports Network) - The Atlanta Thrashers try to put the brakes on a two-game skid tonight when they visit the Washington Capitals at the Verizon Center.

Atlanta has lost four of its last five (1-2-2) overall after a four-game winning streak. On Wednesday the Thrashers dropped a 5-2 tilt to visiting Carolina, as Rod Brind'Amour and Ray Whitney each tallied two goals and two assists for the Hurricanes.

Marian Hossa and Vitaly Vishnevski each scored for the Thrashers, while Kari Lehtonen gave up four goals on 13 shots before being pulled late in the second period. Johan Hedberg took over the netminding duties and stopped all four shots he faced.

Hossa netted his 11th goal of the season, which places him one behind New York's Brendan Shanahan for the league lead. He is also the NHL's leader with eight power-play goals.

Hossa, Ilya Kovalchuk and Co. currently lead the Southeast Division with 19 points -- five ahead of Carolina and Florida.

Atlanta will visit the NY Islanders on Saturday.

Washington, meanwhile, ended a two-game skid with Monday's 4-2 win in Calgary to complete a four-game road trip at 2-1-1. Richard Zednik scored two straight goals to spearhead the effort.
