Just for the sake of conversation, how about we try to make a list of players that haven't won the Cup with the Oilers? I think it would be a more interesting topic than just listing guys from the Dynasty days, we all know how good those teams were and it makes the lists rather consensus.

Obviously guys like Doug Weight and Ryan Smyth are locks on the non-dynasty list, who else makes it? Hemsky has a much more realistic chance at making onto this list.

Does Jason Smith sneak on there for his leadership and grit? I remember Janne Niinimaa being darn good in an Oilers jersey in the early 2000s, was he good enough for the non-dynasty top 10? Mike Grier put up career numbers with the Oilers, could he be on it?

Any names that anyone else would like to toss out there?

Jason Arrnot and Curtis Joesph have to make that list at the very list.

Without doing any research and just listing form the top of the head:

Weight
Arnnot
Joesph
Pronger
Roloston
Smyth
Hemsky
Guerin
Greir
Niinimaa

No offense to the thread starter, but this is a better top 10. Hemmer isnt top 10 yet, same with Lubo.

I think Weight should be number 10. The last Oiler to get 100 points in a season.

Ranford Carried the Oil to their last stanley cup, that put him over the top for me.

Comrie or Gagner over Arnnot? Or even Whitney? Whitney hasn't done a thing yet as an Oiler.

Really? They looked better after he came. He came with a good attitude and wants to win with this team.

He clearly makes players around him better. Gilbert was a PPG dman when paired with Whitney. They had instant chemistry and made the team better.

As for Comrie, if he didn't have mono for most of the season, he would have a great season. He was a PPG player before he got it. And he's the last Oiler to ever get 30 goals in a season.

Whitney hasn't even played 20 games for the Oilers. I don't care how good he's looked in those games, I don't think he deserves to make it onto a top-10 list at this point. If he does, then it speaks more about how sad the Oilers organization has been since the dynasty.

I can get behind Comrie on the list though, as he was darn good the first time around.

Whitney has done more on this team in 20 games than lots of current players have in 2+ seasons. The Comrie comment was a little outdated :p my bad.

And him being on the list doesnt show how sad the team has been. Its MY list. My opinions. If you don't agree with it fine. No need to insult the team... especially in their current situation...

I wanted to add my Top 10 Oilers to the list already here, and used a modified version of my Hall of Fame Quiz to help out with the job. There are a few parts here: stats, awards and reputation, and I'll quickly explain them.

Stats - I took career Games Played, Goals, Assists, and Points accumulated as an Edmonton Oiler. We're looking for the player's contributions to the club, and there's no way one year good year outweighs years of contribution, so my list won't have guys like Chris Pronger. The Ducks won a Cup with that pinhead, not the Oilers.

So...

Add one point for each time the player finishes in the top 10 in any of Games Played, Adjusted Goals, Adjusted Assists or Adjusted Points. Do the same for Top 5 appearances and also for being the club leader in any category.

So, after all is said and done:

1. Wayne Gretzky
2. Mark Messier
3. Jari Kurri
4. Glenn Anderson
5. Paul Coffey
6. Kevin Lowe
7. Grant Fuhr
8. Ryan Smyth
9. Dough Weight
10. Bill Ranford

I don't believe there to be much on that list which is controversial.

Of active player only Hocorff and Hemsky have a chance at moving up very much, with Hemsky being the most likely person. If Hemsky can maintain his scoring pace (and remain an Oiler) until he's 30/31/somewhere around there, he could be knocking on the door. If Taylor Hall or Tyler Seguin becomes a superstar that Hemsky clicks with, then he has a chance to wind up on the list. Make no doubt: Hemsky IS one of the top playmakers in the league, he's just never had anybody to finish his passes.
