I did this last year on a board I used to be on.

I have the top 20 rookie point-getters on a list, and update it every month. However, instead of just updating the list, I leave the previous list ("Old List") under the "New List", and members can view the change from month to month and discuss Rookie of the Year candidates and such. Most players on there now won't be there by December, but the candidates for rookie of the year likely will be there by the end of the year. Ovechkin, Crosby, and Phaneuf for instance.

I can put up some examples if you want, and since it's the first one, I'll update the list in 2 weeks time rather than a month.

For now though:

Updated List (March 10th):

20. Jiri Hudler - 13GP, 3 Points (3G, 0A)

Kings Rookie Anze Kopitar continues to lead, but one can't help but notice the Penguins' Evgeni Malkin is conitnuing to keep pace.

Avs' Paul Stastny (son of Peter) is still in the hunt as well, and Sharks defenceman Matt Carle is still keeping pace.

Meanhwile, Alexander Radulov and Mark Giordano have been sent down to the minors, and are gone from the list.

Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Brad Winchester, and Guilliaume Latendresse have taken their place, and Alan Letang is gone from the list as well. Unfortunately for a few other rookies, the same will happen to them... or they'll just hit a wall offencively and have little movement amongst themselves, like the players ranked 5 through 9.

However, the race for the Calder Trophy seems to be between the top 3 right now. Anze Kopitar, Evgeni Malkin, and Matt Carle. It probably won't be like that at the end of the year, but right now I'd still have them as my 3.

Updated List (December 5th):

1. Evgeni Malkin - 21GP, 25 Points (13G, 12A)
2. Anze Kopitar - 29GP, 24 Points (6G, 18A)
3. Paul Statsny - 26GP, 20 Points (7G, 13A)
4. Dustin Penner - 29GP, 16 Points (9G, 7A)
5. Wojtek Wolski - 25GP, 16 Points (7G, 9A)
6. Matthew Carle - 28GP, 16 Points (3G, 13A)
7. Travis Zajac - 23GP, 14 Points (6G, 8A)
8. Shane O'Brien - 29GP, 11 Points (2G, 9A)
9. Guilliaume Latendresse - 26GP, 10 Points (5G,5A)
10. Ian White - 28GP, 10 Points (2G, 8A)
11. Jordan Staal -25GP, 9 Points (7G, 2A)
12. Alexander Radulov - 13GP, 9 Points (7G, 2A)
13. Jiri Novotny - 24GP, 9 Points (5G, 4A)
14. Phil Kessel - 25GP, 9 Points (5G, 4A)
15. Patrick Thoresen - 25GP, 9 Points (2G, 7A)
16. Lasse Kukonnen - 23GP, 8 Points (3G, 5A)
17. Marc-Edouard Vlasic - 28GP, 7 Points (1G, 8A)
18. Brad Winchester - 25GP, 7 Points (3G, 4A)
19. Jakub Klepis - 20GP, 7 Points (2G, 5A)
20. Mike Green - 25GP, 7 Points (2G, 5A)

Evgeni Malkin has finally taken the lead in Rookie scoring, with 10 Points in his last 9 games.

Kopitar has 7 points in 8 games, and unless he can't keep up the pace, will still have a pretty good chance of winning the Calder trophy.

Matt Carle has cooled down tremndously since his start to the season, and Paul Stastny is still putting up a fight to be in the top 3 in scoring.

However, if the leaders aren't careful, Predators rookie Alexander Radulov could catch them off guard. With 7 Points in his last 6 games, Radulov is on a tear in since his call-up by the Preds, and it's doubtful that he will be sent down again.

He along with Jakub Klepis played a part in Jiri Hudler and Ryan Shannon's erasing from the list.

A lot of other rookies are overshadowed by Malkin, I hope theirs another close Calder Trophy candidacy this year though.

Im actually suprised that Anze Kopitar this kid is SO young how old is he like 18? 19? This kid has talent.

Im suprised Pat O'Sullivan (same team as Kopitar) doesnt have many points this year, this kid is also very talented and i cant wait for him and Kopitar when they are older.

Jakub Klepis and Mike Green have bot hfallen from the list, and in their place are Ryan Shannon of the Anaheim Ducks and the streaking Joe Pavelski. 11. Joe Pavelski - 26GP, 18 Points (9G, 9A)
12. Ian White - 44GP, 18 Points (2G, 16A)
13. Ryan Clowe - 24GP, 17 Points (12G, 5A)
14. Tony Salmelainen - 38GP, 14 Points (6G, 8A)
15. Marc-Edouard Vlasic - 47GP, 14 Points (2G, 12A)

19. Lasse Kukonnen - 41GP, 12 Points (4G, 8A)
20. Loui Eriksson - 31Gp, 11 Points (4G, 7A)

Evgeni Malkin is now pulling away from the pack, with 16 points in just his last 9 games (6G, 10A). Kopitar has seemed to have lost pace, but still has a decent 7 Points in his last 9 (2G, 5A).

But here comes Stastny... Paul Stastny, that is. Just 4 Points back of Kopitar after the All-Star Break, with 10 Points in his last 9 games (4G, 6A). Whether or not he can catch Malkin is remains to be seen, but Kopitar is clearly in sight.

Patrick Thoreson, Ryan Shannon, Brad Winchester are now off the list, and in their places are Loui Eriksson of the Dallas Stars, Tony Salmelainen of the Chicago Blackhawks, and Ryan Clowe of the San Jose Sharks.

Clowe having the biggest impact of the forwards offencively.

Oh whole, the race for the Calder continues to go in favour of Evgeni Malkin.

The Penguins' Evgeni Malkin continues to lead te race after getting 17 Points in his last 18 games (5G, 12A), but Paul Stastny seems to be stepping up to the plate and taking a serious run at the Russian Rookie.

Stastny had 22 Points in his last 18 games (9G, 9A), and won the Rookie of the Month honours for February, the Avalanche forward overtaking Kings Rookie Anze Kopitar for 2nd place in the race (5G, 9A in 13).

Avs' teammate Wojtek Wolski however has seemed to have slowed down as of late, only netting 8 Points in his last 14 (3G, 5A).

Meanwhile, Anaheim's Dustin Penner and Pittsburgh's Jordan Staal have kept pace on nearly Goals alone. Penner has 7 in his last 16 (11 Points), while Staal has jumped from 9th place to 6th in the standings with 11 in his last 18 (14 Points).

Guillaume Latendresse, Travis Zajac, Matt Carle have taken a bit of a stumble in the standings, with Latendresse's due mostly to injury.

Sharks Rookie Ryan Clowe ha 12 Points in his last 17 games, and now sits in 9th place in the race.

Jiri Novotny, Louis Eirksson, and Lasse Kukkonen have been replaced by Alexandre Picard (Philadelphia), Nathan Paetsch (Buffalo Sabres), and Mark Giordano (Calgary).

Novotny was traded to the Washington Capitals at the NHL Trade Deadline by the Buffalo Sabres last week.

I guess your talking about Don Cherry's comments last night? I totally agree.

Malkin and Stastmy are running away with it. I don't think he should even be nominated, with Kopitar having a pretty solid season.

Points arn't everything.Don forget that Staal is 18 and he has more goals than his brother(who is having a horride season). He is close to the top of the NHL in short-handed tallies. He is a definate contender for the rookie of the year.

Hmm... really? Well, you guys put up a pretty good arguement. I'll consider it, but right now my vote is with Stastny (and no, not only because of the family name).

The guy has been amazing (as have aa handful of other rookies) but it almost seems like he's leading the Avalanche out there, despite how they're probably not even going to make the playoffs. He's been showing some awesome skills down low, and seems to find all the openings and everything.

Just a very talented player with very little attention given to him, obviously since his team isn't doing so well.
