The Minnesota Wild assigned NHL veteran Petr Sykora to the Aeros Wednesday, but the former Stanley Cup champion has declined to report, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported.

Sykora, 33, recorded three points (two goals, one assist) in 14 games for the Wild this season. Sykora has posted 677 points (302 goals, 375 assists)) and 415 penalty minutes in 935 NHL games with New Jersey, Anaheim, the New York Rangers, Edmonton, Pittsburgh and Minnesota.

The veteran winger, who won the Stanley Cup last year with the Penguins, fell out of favor with the Wild and was put on waivers Jan. 19.

According to the Star-Tribune, the Wild and Sykora “have mutually agreed to terminate his contract, and once approved by the NHL in the next day or two, Sykora will immediately become an unrestricted free agent."

That's a good decision by Sykora in my perspectiv, but if he cleared waivers without anyone picking him up,it's difficult to assume that he will be signed when he's an unrestricted free agent player. Only time will tell.
