Belleville, Ont. (Monday, Jan. 1) - The St. Michael's Majors put forth a strong effort against the Belleville Bulls this afternoon. In fact, they outshot the home squad 35-19 during the 2nd and 3rd period and 45-30 overall. However, they had to settle for an 8-3 defeat, moving their record to 14-22-1-1 on the year.

Tyler Donati's goal 1:47 into the game put the Bulls in front 1-0. Captain Micheal Haley tied it up for the Majors at 8:52 when he found the back of the net after receiving Mike McGurk and Kaspars Daugavins feeds. Yet, the Bulls added two more goals before the end of the frame, with Shawn Matthias and Bryan Cameron scoring at 9:31 (power-play) and 15:08, respectively.

The two clubs traded goals in the 2nd period. Andrew Gibbons put the Bulls in front 4-1 at 9:28 when he connected off of Geoff Killing and Matt Pelech passes. Justin Donati got the Majors to within a pair of goals at 12:35 with a power-play tally and assists to Daugavins and Matt Caria. Less than a minute later, Aaron Snow restored Belleville's three-goal lead with support coming from Donati and Matthias. And, seven seconds after that, Dylan O'Neil found the back of the net after accepting a Daugavins pass to make it a 5-3 game.

Unfortunately, the Bulls provided all of the scoring in the 3rd period. Donati, Erik Caladi and Cameron lit the lamp at 0:54, 1:25 and 17:14 (power-play). The assists on these goals were credited to Snow, P.K. Subban (2), Shawn Lalonde, Stephen Blunden and Matthew Tipoff.

Wayne Savage stopped 7 of 10 shots before being replaced by Mark Kubicz, who went on to make 15 saves. Rookie Edward Pasquale responded with 42 saves for the Bulls. The Majors finished the day 1 for 7 on the power-play while Belleville was 2 for 7. The game's three stars were Donati (1st), Pasquale (2nd) and Snow (3rd).
