(Sports Network) - The San Jose Sharks shoot for their best seven-game start in franchise history tonight when the Detroit Red Wings invade HP Pavilion for an intriguing early-season matchup between two of the Western Conference's top clubs.

San Jose has won five of its first six contests to begin the 2006-07 campaign. The club also went 5-1 to open the 1994-95 season before going winless in each of its next five games.

On Tuesday, Evgeni Nabokov stopped 32 shots to record his second shutout of the young season and lead the Sharks to a 2-0 victory over Dallas. Milan Michalek and Mark Bell scored for San Jose, which has won two in a row and ended Dallas' season-opening five-game win streak.

Nabokov, who made 13 saves in the first period and 14 more in the second, notched his 29th career shutout.

Michalek is currently riding a four-game point streak, having notched three goals and a pair of assists during that span.

The Sharks, who are 3-0 at the Shark Tank this season, will be playing the second of a three-game homestand. San Jose will host Minnesota on Saturday.

Detroit will try to rebound from its worst performance of the year, a 4-1 drubbing at Anaheim on Wednesday. Tomas Kopecky scored his first career goal for the Red Wings' lone tally.

They're off to a good start so far. Up 3-0 after the 1st, and looking strong on the PP.
