(Sports Network) - The Florida Panthers attempt to extend a season-best three- game win streak when they host the Carolina Hurricanes tonight in the opener of a home-and-home series between the Southeast Division foes.

The Panthers still languish at the bottom of the Southeast standings but have been playing their best hockey of the campaign at the moment. After recording impressive road wins over Boston and Toronto, Florida rallied from a two-goal deficit after two periods to earn a 3-2 triumph over the New York Rangers Thursday at BankAtlantic Center.

Chris Gratton, Nathan Horton and Rostislav Olesz scored the third-period goals for the Panthers, with Olesz netting the game-winner with 8:50 remaining. Ed Belfour made the lead stand by notching 30 saves.

Florida had been 0-14-1 when trailing after two periods prior to Thursday's comeback.

The Panthers had also lost four in a row prior to their current surge, in which they have outscored their opponents by a 16-8 margin.

Carolina also comes in on a roll, as the defending Stanley Cup champs have won three straight following a season-worst five-game slide. The Hurricanes overmatched the visiting New York Islanders on Friday, with Rod Brind'Amour compiling a goal and two assists to lead Carolina to a 5-1 victory.
