(Sports Network) - The Dallas Stars were off to a 5-0 start to the season, but were finally dealt a loss by a team that could be their stiffest competition in the division this year.

The Stars' five-game winning streak to start the year included three victories over division rivals, but the club faltered Tuesday night in San Jose.

With the loss, Dallas failed to match the best start in franchise history, a six-game winning streak to begin the 1996-97 campaign.

Tuesday's game was a tightly contested battle and San Jose rode an excellent performance by goaltender Evgeni Nabokov to a 2-0 win at the Shark Tank. It was the first of eight meetings this year between the teams in what should be an exciting season series.

The close game was not surprising considering the teams split eight matchups during the 2005-06 campaign.

What better team to end it? Nabokov stood on his head, and mae a case for the starting job with the shutout. He's played very well.

He mad a great save when he kicked out his pads to made a huge stop, and come out with the win.

Superb game by him.

Mark Bell also scored in his return from injury.
