(Sports Network) - The Dallas Stars have a chance to gain ground on the San Jose Sharks tonight when the two Pacific Division foes face off in a key showdown from HP Pavilion.
Both teams are looking up at the high-flying Anaheim Ducks in the division standings, with the Sharks currently in second place with 48 points and Dallas sitting in third with 42.
San Jose enters the matchup with victories in four of its last five games and closed the gap on the Ducks with a 4-3 win at the Shark Tank on Saturday. Joe Thornton put in the go-ahead goal with 2:13 left to play and the Sharks fought back from a 3-2 third-period deficit.
Thornton also had an assist to extend his point scoring streak to six games. The reigning Hart Trophy winner has compiled two goals and 10 helpers during his run.
Milan Michalek and Joe Pavelski each added a pair of assists and Evgeni Nabokov made 32 saves to help San Jose to victory.
The Sharks are in the midst of a six-game homestand and have amassed a splendid 12-4-0 record at HP Pavilion this season. San Jose is 1-1-0 thus far during its home stretch.
