(Sports Network) - The Dallas Stars and San Jose Sharks will battle for the second time in three days tonight at the Shark Tank.
On Tuesday, Mike Ribeiro scored the game-winning goal in a shootout, as the Stars rallied from a two-goal deficit to sink the Sharks, 3-2, in San Jose.
Ribeiro also assisted on Philippe Boucher's game-tying goal with 2.2 seconds remaining in the third and scored in regulation. Marty Turco made 15 saves as Dallas snapped a two-game slide.
The extra session halted a 49-game streak for the Sharks without playing in an overtime period. It is the longest single-season streak since the five-minute overtime period was instituted in 1983-84, breaking the previous mark of 41 games held by Toronto. Tuesday night marked San Jose's first OT game since beating St. Louis, 5-4, on October 5.
The win was Dallas' third over the Sharks in the last four meetings. The teams have clashed five times so far this season, and three of those games resulted in wins for the Stars.
Dallas was sparked by the return of Mike Modano to the lineup. Modano had missed the last 23 games due to a hip/groin flexor, having last played on December 4 against these very same Sharks. Modano has 10 goals and 10 assists through 27 games this season, but was held off the scoresheet on Tuesday.
The club is still without forward Brenden Morrow (right wrist surgery), however, but improved to 15-11-1 on the road and 1-1 on their current four- game road trip. The trek ends Saturday in St. Louis.
