In an exciting back and forth game between the Everett Silvertips and the Seattle Thunderbirds, the Silvertips come out on top by a final score of 5-4 after a shoot out. The shoot out, longest in Everett's franchise history, went 12 rounds before a winner was decided.
This was the sixth meeting of ten between the I-5 rivals and the Silvertips lead the series 4-2. With this win they move up to 28-5-0-1, 57 points and first place in the Western Conference and the US Division. Seattle, second in the division, falls to 16-9-1-9 and 42 points.
This game started out fast and furious and continued like that until the end. Seven seconds into the game Dan Gendur put Everett on the board after his shot went top shelf. This is the fastest goal scored in a game for Everett in franchise history as well. Twenty-three seconds later Jan Eberle tied it up at one a piece. At the close of the first period Eberle scored again to put Seattle up 2-1.
Midway through the second Zach Hamill's rebound shot tied the game up at two with Jason Fransoo following 35 seconds later to extend Everett to 3-2. But just a minute and a half later Radek Meidl made it an even game again with three goals a piece.
Starting off the third, just 34 seconds into it, Kyle Beach scored a power play goal to give the Silvertips the lead for the third time during the game. Then, with just over a minute to go in the final stanza, Eberle's third goal trickled behind David Reekie while Seattle was on a 6-on-5 with the goalie pulled.
After a scoreless overtime period the shoot out began. The shoot out, longest in Silvertips history, went a record 12 rounds. Jesse Smyke ended up earning the game winner for his team. Earning assists tonight for Everett were Dan Gendur, Kyle Beach, Jonathan Harty, Moises Gutierrez and Ondrej Fiala all with one a piece. On the power play Everett went 1/8 while Seattle was scoreless on six. Both teams had 29 shots on goal.
In between the pipes for Everett was David Reekie. With the win Reekie moves to 10-5, now 9-2 while playing in a Silvertips' uniform. Tonight he made 25 saves on 29 shots. His shoot out record is a perfect 3-0. Derek Yeomans, stopping 24/28 shots, falls to 12-6-1-7. In shoot outs Everett is 6-1 while Seattle is 0-9.
The Everett Silvertips travel north to Prospera Place in Kelowna, BC where they will drop the puck against the Kelowna Rockets on Friday, December 29th. Game time is set for 7pm.
