(Sports Network) - The suddenly-slumping Buffalo Sabres will try to get back on track this evening, when they host the Boston Bruins at HSBC Arena in the opener of a home-and-home series.

The Sabres lead the Northeast Division and Eastern Conference with 70 points, but have dropped three straight and six of their last eight contests. Another defeat tonight would give Buffalo its longest losing streak of the season.

Buffalo was last in action Saturday night at Nassau Coliseum and was handed a 5-3 setback by the New York Islanders. Randy Robitaille scored the game- winning goal with just 3:09 left in the contest to help New York earn the win.

Jochen Hecht scored two goals while Ryan Miller made 26 saves for the Sabres.

Daniel Briere posted an assist in the loss to extend his point streak to five games. This year's All-Star Game MVP has two goals and six assists during the tear.

Meanwhile, the Bruins have dropped three straight and 10 of their last 13 contests. Boston was slammed, 6-1, on Tuesday by the visiting New York Rangers. Petr Prucha had two goals and an assist to guide the Blueshirts at TD Banknorth Garden.
