(Sports Network) - The Washington Capitals will try to avoid matching their longest losing streak of the season tonight, when they welcome the Montreal Canadiens to the Verizon Center.

The Caps have dropped five in a row and are just one setback away from the six-game skid they endured from November 15-25.

Washington's most recent loss came Monday against the visiting Phoenix Coyotes. Owen Nolan posted a goal and an assist and Mikael Tellqvist made 30 saves to lead Phoenix past the Capitals, 3-2.

Brian Pothier and Brian Sutherby each scored and Olaf Kolzig made 24 saves for the slumping Capitals, who are third in the Southeast Division with 39 points.

Capitals winger Alexander Ovechkin, who leads the team in goals (25) and assists (26), has just one point in his last two contests.

Tonight marks the second test of a four-game homestand for Washington, which is just 8-10-3 in DC this year.
