Sinden denies Toronto offered mentor position

Harry Sinden said yesterday he has not spoken to the Toronto Maple Leafs nor to an intermediary about the NHL club's new position of senior consultant.

Before he left his Boston-area home for an annual summer fishing trip with New York Rangers general manager Glen Sather and Anaheim Ducks GM Brian Burke, Sinden responded to a report last weekend that claimed the long-time Boston Bruins executive has been contacted by either the Leafs or by a go-between.

"I have not been contacted, not at all," Sinden said. "I have never heard from anybody. A friend of mine e-mailed me the story on the weekend, and I had no idea what they were talking about."

If the Leafs were to contact him, would he be interested?
