The Tri-City Americans came back to defeat the Everett Silvertips 5-4 Friday night. WHL rookie leading scorer Kellan Tochkin upped his point total to 68 on the year after a two goal performance. Shane Harper took home the night's first star with one goal and two assists bringing the California native 63 points this season. Taylor Ellington completed the scoring for Everett Friday night netting his fifth of the year.
This brings the 'Tips record to 25-30-7-2 with 59 points in 64 games played taking them to seventh place in the Western Conference, standing five points behind the Kamloops Blazers. Silvertips are now 3-7-0-0 in their last 10 games. The Silvertips return to action Saturday, February 28th at Comcast Arena to take on the Vancouver Giants at 7:05!
Capitalizing on a Spencer Asuchak boarding penalty early on in the game, Taylor Ellington scored his fifth goal of the season on the power play at 4 minutes and 3 seconds to open up Friday night's scoring. Ellington received a Dan Iwanski pass from the hash marks and ripped a hard slap shot from the blue line that deflected off an American defenseman and past Chet Pickard for the quick 1-0 lead. Jesse Burt tipped in what looked to be Everett's second goal of the night, but the goal was called off immediately after the puck was tipped in with a high stick. The Silvertips added to their lead at 19:11, scoring their second power play goal of the night after WHL rookie leading scorer Kellan Tochkin scored his 17th goal of the season. Tochkin's shot was nearly stopped at the goal line by a diving Pickard but was ruled a goal by head official Matt Kirk. Everett ended the period up 2-0 outshooting the Americans 13-10.
Tri-City narrowed the score after a great Pickard pass led to a 3 on 1 Americans charge into the Everett zone. Taylor Procyshen netted his 35th goal of the season after receiving a Jarrett Toll pass and going in alone on Simpson, beating the Everett netminder high glove side at 6:28. The rest of the second period was played evenly with Tri-City leading in shots 22-20 after 40 minutes of play.
The Americans climbed their way to take a 4-3 lead with two quick goals to begin the third period. First came from Jason Reese when a 2 on1 rush resulted in Reese hitting the post and collecting his own rebound for a goal at 2:59. Next up was Mitch Fadden who beat Simpson on a spinning slap shot from the corner at 3:51 to give the Americans a 3-2 lead. The power play continued to be sweet for Everett, this time a harmless Shane Harper shot on goal was juggled by Pickard and Harper collected his own rebound to tie the game at 6:40. Everett continued to get bounces leading to their fourth goal of the game. Tochkin threw a puck on net from the side boards and got the puck to deflect off of Mitch McColm's skate to beat Pickard at 7:53. Tri-City found a way to come back scoring the game's last two goals. Jarrett Toll tied the game at 11:28 and Brendan Shinnimin netted the game winning goal at 18:02 to come back and beat Everett 5-4.
