The script could not have been better, Moncton Wildcats rookie Allain Saulnier of Cap -Pele scored the winning goal in a shoot out as the Wildcats edged the PEI Rocket 4-3 in front of six thousand fans at the Coliseum Friday night.

Ted Stephens put the Cats out in front at 12:07 of the first period, Scott Brannon and Matthew Bissonnette assisted on the power play marker. The Rocket evened the count at 13:46 with Adam Polasek scoring from Matthew Hobbs and Sampson Mahbod, the Rocket were on the power play. PEI went ahead at 16:29 when Joel Champagne got another man advantage goal from Polasek and Benjamin Casavant.

The teams exchanged goals in the middle frame; Ben Duffy scored an unassisted marker at 5:22 to put the visitors up by a pair. Devon MacAusland got the Wildcats to within one at the 6 minute mark on a solo effort.

Scott Brannon sent the game to overtime on a pass from Randy Cameron and David Savard at 14:07 of the third.

There was no scoring in the five minute overtime, setting the stage for the shoot out.

Ted Stephens scored for the Wildcats after Mahbod of the Rocket was stopped by Moncton goalie Wendell Vye. Duffy missed on the Rocket's second effort and Saulnier sealed the win with his second goal of the season.

The Wildcats out shot the Rocket 57-31, on the power-play the Rockets went 2 for 5 while the Cats were 1 for 5.

Three stars were Mosher of the Rocket the first star, Scott Brannon took second star honors and Ted Stephens was named star number three.

The Wildcats face the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles on Sunday afternoon at 4 as Home Opening Weekend winds down.
