BELLEVILLE, Ont. (CP) - Shawn Mattias' power-play goal at 4:24 of the first period ended up being the winner as the Belleville Bulls scored three times in the opening four minutes in a 5-2 victory over the Brampton Battalion in the lone Ontario Hockey League game played on Wednesday.
Jeff Leavitt put the Bulls ahead 1:31 into the game, and Matt Belesky made it a two-goal advantage 45 seconds later.
John Hughes replied with a pair of goals for Brampton (14-22-1-3) to cut the deficit to 3-2, but Cory Tanaka would score to make it 4-2 for the Bulls at the first intermission.
Bryan Cameron added a power-play goal in the second period for Belleville (22-14-0-2), which moved nine points ahead of Oshawa for top spot in the East Division.
