COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Patrick Sharp and Jim Vandermeer both scored twice as the Chicago Blackhawks had three power-play goals to beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-2 in a pre-season game Friday night.

Tony Salmelainen also scored for Chicago (3-0) and Corey Crawford made 33 saves. Geoff Platt and Duvie Westcott scored for Columbus (2-2). Ty Conklin stopped 23 shots.

Sharp started the scoring, converting a cross-ice pass from Mikael Holmqvist during a power play at 7:53 of the first period.

Columbus responded in the second period when Platt snapped home a goal from in close. Westcott made it 2-1 with slap shot from the right circle during a power play at 9:06.

Chicago answered with two goals in 2:07 late in the second.

Chicago looks like they have an improved product on the ice. I see them being muc hbetter this year than last season. Patrick Sharp is also turning out to be a pretty good player. I remember when he was in Philly. I didn't hear to much about him, but I guess with the way the new rules are being called, his play seems to be much better (like many others).
