(Sports Network) - The San Jose Sharks will continue their five-game road trip this evening when they visit the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena.

The Sharks started their trek on a good note Monday when they blanked the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena. Vesa Toskala stopped 23 shots en route to recording his first shutout of the season and San Jose defeated Columbus, 3-0.

Toskala, who entered with a 4-0 record and 2.48 goals-against-average on the season, has now won a franchise-record 12 straight regular-season decisions, dating back to last year. He is currently splitting time with Evgeni Nabokov between the pipes for San Jose and both netminders have been solid this season.

Nabokov is expected to get the start for the Sharks tonight.

Steve Bernier, Jonathan Cheechoo and Marcel Goc all tallied goals for the Sharks, who were 2-for-8 on the power play.

San Jose is off to its best start to a campaign since also going 7-2 through the first nine games of the 1999-2000 season. A victory tonight would give the Sharks their best-ever start through 10 games.
