SAN JOSE, Calif. (CP) - The San Jose Sharks, trailing Detroit 3-0 after 12 minutes, rallied with nine consecutive goals, drove Dominik Hasek to the bench, and shelled the Red Wings 9-4 Thursday night.
Ryane Clowe and Mike Grier scored two goals each and Josh Gorges, Jonathan Cheechoo, Christian Ehrhoff, Joe Pavelski and Patrick Marleau scored for the Sharks.
Joe Thornton had four assists and Marleau had three.
''A strong second period got us right back in the game,'' said Marleau, who became the all-time points and assists leader in Sharks history.
The nine unanswered goals was a club record, as were the six power-play goals the Sharks scored.
''It shows what happens when we play the way we should,'' said Marleau.
Marleau has 454 points in a career spent entirely with the Sharks, roaring past Owen Nolan's career record of 451 early in the third period with his second assist. Marleau is one goal shy of Nolan's franchise record of 206.
Goals by Jiri Hudler, Tomas Holmstrom and Jason Williams staked Detroit to the early lead, and Brett Lebda added a late goal.
San Jose had a 31-30 shots edge.
