(Sports Network) - A big reason the New York Rangers signed Brendan Shanahan over the summer was to bring a winning attitude. The other was his knack for the net, and he has not disappointed with his effort so far.

The three-time Stanley Cup winner is in a five-way tie -- with Chris Drury, Martin Havlat, Marian Hossa and Alexander Semin -- for the NHL goal-scoring lead with seven tallies. Shanahan's line includes four power-play goals and a game-winner.

Of course, the Rangers haven't exactly been able to follow his lead, as they've lost four of their last five after winning the first two of the season. On Wednesday New York dropped a 3-0 tilt to visiting Nashville, as Tomas Vokoun made 38 saves and Scott Nichol had a goal and an assist to lead the Predators.

Henrik Lundqvist made 24 saves for the Rangers, who have lost four of their last five games. Jaromir Jagr and Michael Nylander each had six-game point- scoring streaks come to an end for New York, which was shut out for the first time ever by the Predators.

New York finished 0-for-8 on the power play in defeat, and is 7-for-43 on the young season.
