(Sports Network) - The Ottawa Senators shoot for a season-best fifth consecutive victory when the resurgent club hosts the Washington Capitals this evening at Scotiabank Place.

After a mediocre first 2 1/2 months of the season, the Senators have turned things around by going 9-1-1 over their last 11 games. Ottawa is now within one point of Montreal for fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings and handed the rival Canadiens a humiliating 8-3 defeat on Saturday.

Daniel Alfredsson scored once and assisted on four others to lead the way, while Chris Kelly amassed a career-high four points (one goal and three assists) for the Senators. Ray Emery stopped 37-of-40 shots in the rout.

Wade Redden added a goal for Ottawa and has now recorded a point in six consecutive games, notching two goals and seven assists during the run. Kelly has compiled 11 points (three goals, eight assists) during a five-game scoring streak.

The Senators have won four straight games three other times during the course of this campaign, but last won five in a row from February 11-March 6 of last season.

Washington is currently on a four-game road trip which hasn't produced any success so far. The Capitals began the swing with a 5-4 loss at Tampa Bay on Thursday, then were dealt a 7-3 setback to Florida two nights later.

Chris Clark, Matt Pettinger and Alexander Semin all scored for Washington, which had recorded three straight victories prior to Thursday's defeat. Olaf Kolzig started in net, but was pulled after allowing five goals on 41 shots over the first two periods. Brent Johnson played the third and gave up two goals on 13 shots.
