(Sports Network) - The Ottawa Senators try to build on an explosive offensive effort tonight when they visit the rival Toronto Maple Leafs at Air Canada Centre in the opener of a home-and-home.

The Sens defeated New Jersey, 8-1, on Saturday and have won two of their last three games. Antoine Vermette and Dean McAmmond each scored two goals as Ottawa used a five-goal second period en route to the rout.

Jason Spezza finished with a goal and two assists and Ray Emery made 34 saves for the Senators, who had lost four of their previous five games going into the game.

Emery has been rotating with Martin Gerber so far, and it's expected that the latter player will be in net tonight. Gerber, who signed as a free agent over the summer, has struggled a bit, recording a 3.31 goals-against average and .898 save percentage in four starts.

The Sens, who have yet to lose in two road games this season, will host Toronto on Thursday.

The Leafs, meanwhile, have lost two of their last three games. On Saturday they dropped a 5-4 shootout tilt to the visiting NY Rangers, as Brendan Shanahan's shootout goal lifted the victors.
