Brodeur inks one-year deal with Senators

Very happy with that. I hope they give him more time and I think Elliott and Leclaire will be fighting for the number 1 spot next season as well so its going to be hard to give Brodeur some time but I am hoping 10-15 games.

A few hours after it was announced he had signed a new one-year, two-way contract with the Senators, Mike Brodeur casually mentioned that he’s good pals with Dustin Byfuglien — the Blackhawks defenceman-turned-forward every other team’s puck-stopper can’t stand.
It would be nice if Byfuglien would come to Ottawa to join Brodeur but fat chance, but hey I can dream right? :dunno:

Why are you frustrated with that?
Because after years of working through the minors, he should be able to make some money. Of course, his $105k in the minors is an increase over the $85k he earned on his last contract. At the very least, he should get a bit more of a look from the Senators, he's put the work in.

I just like seeing guys get what they deserve.

Maybe because the Wins can't pick him up off of waivers ?
Two-way and one-way contracts have nothing to do with waiver eligibility.

That fair enough to say and understandable. I think I am more worried for his playing time then his salary.

I don't want Clouston fiddling with Elliott and Leclaire too much. Ottawa is probably going to axe one of them by the end of next season or even earlier because I think they are going to want to make room for Brodeur if he continues to play well.

I'm frustrated with that too. If they intended to bring him up next season and get him some NHL time, they can structure a multi-year contract so that it's two-way only in the first year. Giving him a one year, two-way contract at this time just says that they plan on having him in the minors this year and if he's still around maybe they'll sign him.

The money is good for Brodeur and would also work as an incentive for the Senators to actually promote from within.

Agreed, though I think Murray did this because hes hurt for money as it is. He is going to need to pick up a new defenseman.
