SAINT JOHN, Jan 3, 2007 - The Saint John Sea Dogs have obtained 20-year-old centre Steve Bellefleur from the Shawingan Cataractes in exchange for a 6th round draft pick in 2007.
The 5' 10", 190 lb. native of St-Basile-le-Grand, QC has appeared in 39 games for Shawinigan this season and has five goals and 18 assists for 23 points, to go along with 54 penalty minutes. Bellefleur was selected by the Cataractes in the 6th round (81st overall) of the 2003 QMJHL entry draft.
"Steve is a hard-working, hard-nosed player," said Jacques Beaulieu, interim general manager and head coach of the Sea Dogs. "We want to surround our young kids with these types of players."
The Sea Dogs are on this road this week, visiting the Lewiston MAINEiacs tonight (Jan. 3) and the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on Friday (Jan. 5). They return to action at Harbour Station this coming Sunday (Jan. 7) when they will host the St. John's Fog Devils on "Guaranteed Win" day. If the Sea Dogs lose to St. John's, fans attending that game will be able to exchange their ticket stub for a free ticket to any remaining 2006-07 regular season home game. Details are available at The Saint John Sea Dogs Official Web Site - Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).
