MONTREAL (CP) - Winger Sergei Samsonov cleared NHL waivers Wednesday and also cleared the air.

The Russian winger, a major disappointment this season, says he's looking forward to staying on with the Montreal Canadiens after meeting with head coach Guy Carbonneau and GM Bob Gainey.

I remember this guy from the IHL. He was on the Detroit Vipers, in which I used to go to quite a few games. He was pretty decent. I don't know what happened. Maybe he will eventually turn it around.

Yeah I hope he can turn it around because he really is a waste of money.

I really thought he'd be a big help to the club, but every time the spotlight is placed on Samsonov he just can't seem to hack it.

A shame, especially with the dough they rolled out for him.
