The Saginaw Spirit swept the weekend and secured their second consecutive win in as many games following a 3-2 regulation victory over the Owen Sound Attack Saturday night. T.J. Brodie notched three points in the effort, one goal and two assists, while Barry Sanderson continued his scoring streak with his single goal against the Attack giving him three goals in two games. Goalie Anthony Peters faced a gauntlet of shots, posting 37 saves to earn the game's first star award. The Spirit return home undefeated in the opening weekend of the new season, with four points and a record of 2-0-0-0.

The Spirit found themselves down early in the contest due to a quick opening goal from Attack winger Bobby Mignardi, who scored :33 seconds into the first period. Centers Joey Hishon and Myles Doan assisted on the goal.

Saginaw took control in the second frame with three consecutive goals. Center Barry Sanderson tallied a power play goal at the 12:19 mark, with assists from center Ivan Telegin and defenseman T.J. Brodie (NHL Calgary Flames). It was Sanderson's third goal of the season and Telegin's first OHL career point. Brodie moved the score to 2-1 with a power play goal at 16:11 in the period, courtesy assists from wingers Josh Shalla and Jordan Skellett. Winger Stephen Francella rounded out the Spirit scoring with his first Saginaw goal, an even strength goal tallied at the 18:04 mark. Skellett and Brodie added additional points to their game stats with an assist apiece.

The Attack would get back into the game with goal late in the third period moving the score to 3-2. Mignardi tallied the goal, his second of the evening, on the power play at the 12:37 mark thanks to assists from defenseman Curtis Crombeen and center Steven Shipley. Despite their effort, the Attack were unable to break through Saginaw's defense. Saginaw took home the two points with a 3-2 win.
