Oh my god! The savior has arrived!
UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) -- The New York Islanders on Friday signed unrestricted free-agent center Cliff Ronning for the remainder of the season.
The 38-year-old Ronning had 17 goals and 31 assists in 80 games with the Minnesota Wild last season. A 17-year NHL veteran, he has 297 goals and 548 assists in his career.
The Islanders were looking for help after losing first-line forwards Alexei Yashin and Mark Parrish to serious injuries.
"Cliff is a proven point-producer," Islanders general manager Mike Milbury said in a statement. "With two of our top scorers out, we were fortunate Cliff was available as a free agent and showed such a strong desire to be an Islander. His experience and work on the power play will be great assets for us."
Ronning was Nashville's leading scorer in each of his four seasons with the Predators, and was second in scoring behind Marian Gaborik last season in Minnesota.
Ronning has also played for St. Louis, Vancouver, Phoenix and Los Angeles.
That is Cliff Ronning. Always a hard worker, good team guy, it is too bad he has bounced around so much in his career, people have said he is too small and so on, but he has had a positive impact nearly everywhere he has played.ScumWithANoose said:He's really a class guy. He's on the 4th line teaching the kids how to play and isn't complaining one bit. THATS class folks.
He played for the Wild last year and they should have resigned him... but since they are cheap they didn't, and its coming back to bite them in the ass.. he is really excelling in the Isle and is helping the youngsters.gojetsgo said:I like cliff, he was the preds best player
