Redden re-signed with Ottawa for 13mil over 2 years. Chara however rejected the Sens latest offer of around 7mil a year and is going to test the free agency waters. This comes as no surprise as there has been plenty of talk that there are some teams (Rangers being one) who would be willing to payout nearly the limit for Chara. Big Z is lookin for around the 8mil mark and a 3+year contract.

Ottawa thankfully is deep on D and the loss of Chara will not be as significant as some may believe. This does mean however that Ottawa has a lot more money and cap space to play with to sign RFA and Free agents this summer. They may make a run at Mckee for the D core...aswell as roenick, Shannahan or Arnott....I think bringing in Roenick and Arnott would be great, and possibly Hinote from the Avs.

A wise move on their part. They at least got 1 of the two, and if Redden's it and is going to be cheaper, than I guess that's the route they have to go. They need to be aware of the Cap that's in place, and though it's up $5M, whatever Chara's asking for ($8M+) is not worth the trouble, especially with other d-men out there.

Rob Blake, Pavel Kubina, and such.
