The Detroit Red Wings announced Wednesday that forward Greg Johnson has officially retired as a player and will join the Detroit Red Wings in a player development capacity.

Johnson, 35, played for the Nashville Predators in 2005-06.

He skated in 68 games and collected 19 points with 10 penalty minutes. Johnson retired as the Predators' leader in games played (502) and ranks second in goals (93).

That's a shame. I heard he was having heart problems similar to Steve Konowalchuk and Jiri Fischer last I heard... could be true.

Haven't heard much since the initially revealed the problem a few weeks back, but this is a very puzzling situation.

It's happened 3 times in less than a year.

I hope he does well in his new position.
