(Sports Network) - A pair of Western Conference contenders will face off tonight at San Jose's HP Pavilion, where the Sharks will try to cool off the sizzling Detroit Red Wings.

Detroit has won four in a row to move into a first-place tie with Nashville atop the Central Division. The Red Wings and Predators each have 55 points, which trails only Pacific leader Anaheim for the most in the conference.

San Jose has had a strong year as well, as the Sharks have compiled 52 points thus far. However, the club still trails the powerful Ducks by 10 points for the top spot in the Pacific.

Detroit's most recent triumph came at the expense of the Ducks on Tuesday. Henrik Zetterberg scored the game-winning goal on a pretty feed from Tomas Holmstrom late in the second period, as the Wings celebrated Steve Yzerman night with a 2-1 win over Anaheim.

Before the game, the Red Wings honored the legendary career of Yzerman, a 10- time All-Star who spent his entire 22-year career in the Motor City, by retiring his No. 19 jersey.

Mathieu Schneider scored Detroit's other goal, while Dominik Hasek was stellar in net for the Red Wings, who won for the sixth time in seven chances. The veteran goaltender finished with 21 saves.

Zetterberg is currently riding a seven-game point scoring streak, having notched four goals and five assists over that span.

The Red Wings will again be without defenseman Chris Chelios, who has missed three straight games with a shin injury. The 44-year-old has remained in Detroit because of the recent stabbing deaths of two employees in a bar that he owns.

Detroit begins a five-game road trip tonight and is 11-6-2 away from home on the season.
