Red Wings, Blues meet in St. Louis
(Sports Network) - The Detroit Red Wings were in a bit of a funk prior to the All-Star break, but will try to put that behind them when they visit the St. Louis Blues at Scottrade Center this evening.
The Red Wings have 65 points and are six behind Central Division-leading Nashville, but dropped their last two tests prior to this week's hiatus. They dropped last Friday's game in Columbus and then lost in Colorado on Saturday.
The Avalanche posted a 3-1 victory over Detroit in Saturday's contest, with Andrew Brunette scoring the game-winning goal midway through the third period.
Valtteri Filppula scored the lone goal and Joey McDonald finished the game with 28 saves for the Red Wings.
Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom was the team's lone player at the All- Star Game in Dallas. Winger Henrik Zetterberg was also selected to the game as a reserve, but sat out with tendinitis in his left wrist. Zetterberg is expected to play in tonight's contest, however.
Meanwhile, the Blues had won three straight before heading into the All-Star break. The latest victory came in a close game last Saturday in San Jose. Manny Legace made 31 saves for his third shutout of the season and St. Louis earned the 1-0 win at the Shark Tank.
