Mark Recchi is returning to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Sources tell TSN that the free agent forward has signed a deal to return to the club that traded him to the eventual Stanley Cup Champion Carolina Hurricanes at the trade deadline in March.

The 38 year-old scored 57 points in 63 games with the Penguins last season. In 20 regular season games with the Hurricanes he chipped in seven points.

Reechi was a major part of the Hurricanes' Stanley Cup run, tallying 7 goals and 9 assists in 25 games.

Recchi led Philadelphia in goals, assists and points in 2003-04, helping the Flyers reach the Eastern Conference Final.

He has scored 20 goals or more in each of his last seven NHL seasons and has accumulated 1265 points in 1256 career games.

Recchi won a Stanley Cup with the Penguins in 1991. He was later traded to the Flyers and played for the Canadiens from 1995 to 1999, before being traded back to Philadelphia.

Hmm... this was a decent signing, but will Recchi be able to produce at his age? Hopefully enough worth 2.28 mil.

Welcome aboard Forbidden!!

I think he's there for leadership, and to try to show Crosby how to handle things, such as keeping his temper under control!!
Thanks for the welcome. There was some word around Pittsburgh saying that Recchi was being somewhat of a locker room cancer toward Crosby and some other younger players. I'm sure it couldn't have been that bad though because Shero wouldn't bring him back if he did that.

Yeah, I remember hearing that as well.

I think Crosby needs the presence of the older guys around, to steer him in the right direction. He'll be 19 in less than a month, but he needs discipline in his game. Talent doesn't get you there alone!!

I guess time will tell on this one?
Yeah, almost everyone on the Pens team is very young, so veterans could really help him. Right now LeClair, Recchi, and Thibault are some of the only vets we have on our team, but with some of the young talent we have now, hopefully we will be a force to be reckoned with in a few years.
I twas expected. He lives in Pittsburgh, and it seemed likely he would return there again after the Cane's Cup victory.

he's still a very good player, even at his age. Mayvbe he doesn't have the blinding speed he had some 5 years ago, but he's still decent in that department, and he can setup plays with the best of them.

It'll be a huge help to the Penguins so good for them.
It's only for 1 year so next year when there are better options in the UFA they won't be tied down to a 2 or 3 year contract. Oh almost forgot new guy here what's up!!

Exactly, 1 year contract, and, that's if he ends up staying in Pittsburgh for the full year??

Yea I think your right,Unless they shock the hell out of people & are in the playoff hunt:)
Recchi was just interviewed on TV, and he said the whole Crosby thing was blown out of proportion. Also, Pens GM Shero was interviewed right after and he said that Crosby was one of the leading supporters of Recchi returning to the Pens.
