Alfie is at his ends, I agree. But he's the guy that makes the team, it proves it when he's not there and we loose. Heatley is a looser, get him outta here, he doesn't even deserve to be on ANY nhl team..or wait.. maybe leafs will take him.. haha just kidding.

Hopefully we'll be able to pull it together this year.

I still like the pickup of Leclair, but I agree, time to rebuild.

I saw an interview with Spezza, and it seems even some of Heatleys good friends from the team are at odds with him now. With what the big 3 is being paid and what you can expect from them in the future, theres just no chance you can build a championship team around those 3 as your star players.

To me it would make sense to get rid of Heatley for any prosepects and picks you can, wait until the deadline and trade Alfie to a contender for more young talent, and give Spezza another year or two to see how he performs. Unless you guys are willing to trade him to Edmonton, with him agreeing to come here in writing first obviously. You can have Horcoff and Gagner/Coglianno for him.

I agree totally. However, I wouldn't dump him for what the Oilers are offering. I've heard the Sharks are intersted.

Leclaire might be a good pickup, time will tell, but they definitely have goaltending issues so on paper it is an excellent signing.

Right now they have the same model as Tampa, sunk their money into 3 guys, no depth, no secondary scoring, weak goaltending etc.

Clouston has them on the right track though. But the time is now, move your big guns and get younger.

San Jose's offer turned into bad contracts once Heatley turned down being traded to the Oilers. At least as far as I've heard.

I'm not entirely sold on Leclaire being the solution to all of Ottawa's goaltending problems. Hitchcock's system really worked well for the goaltenders in Columbus and he's coming off of a major surgery.

If he can play like he did in Columbus though, he is a definite building block.
They need secondary scoring and goaltending.

I'd move Healtley, Spezza or Alfie out for some 20 goal scorers and depth.

Hes definitely someone we'll have to wait and see on. He'll either turn out to be a steal, or another cautionary tale of trading for an injured player.

Doesn't he have a no trade clause? His new contract might be a little tough to move, with movement clauses, and him under contract for until he's 40.

Interesting salaries though:

9.1, 7, 4.5, 1

Still that is a lot of cap hit for a team to take on particularly working around a NTC.

we arent going to trade he for one he has a NTC 2 he has a contract untill 12/13 with salaries decline so keep him and prevent riots in ottawa

also his salaries are 7,7,4.1,1 and its not really interesting most teams signing players to long term deals do this and its smart you get older you lose your touch in some cases less cap hit and so on

i think everyone here can SHUT-UP seeing as we have a team like we had in 06/07 ENERGY and scoring we dont need one player with a large margin of goals though one player with 40 and the rest of the team at say 15-30 goals per player i think we have a shot at the cup or at least conference finals

It's not over yet

Ottawa has to re-group find a new groove and follow that groove into the playoffs. This is a very talented team with a bad case of the hiccups.
We all know how hard it is to get rid of the hiccups and there is no permanent cure.
I say they have a Great coaching staff, a well rounded team but they lack a little heart. Here is to a win tonight.

Yes they should bring up Brodeur :bt any good shake up would be awesome. If Leclaire had the hiccups he would probably throw his neck out or someting
